Carnival once more a major event for the town

Wellington Carnival brought huge crowds out on to the town’s streets last night (Saturday) in a fitting response to all the hard work put in by its organisers.

There was rain – but not enough to deter people of all ages from sharing the spectacle.

After very large trucks, a fire engine and motor bikes opened the procession, Town Crier Andrew Norris led a carnival that included majorette groups from around the area.

There were pupils, staff and parents from local schools, organisations including Taunton and Wellington Young Farmers, Wellington Pantomime Group in full costume for the production of Sleeping Beauty in January and Wellington Folk and Customs Society.

In between, there were dozens of individual walking entries and the spectacular entries from some of the big clubs which feature in the local carnival circuit.

The creative effort put into all the contributions cannot have failed to impress and entertain all those who lined the streets from Rockwell Green right through the centre of the town.

Money raised from donations – the collectors out on the street included young players from Wellington AFC – and from programmes will support good causes  in the town.

  1. What a great night!! Well done to the Carnival Club and all the entrants. As Gill says, there was a little bit of rain but luckily not much. It was a wonderful evening enjoyed by everybody. Fantastic!!!
