Wellington Town Council has been reviewing its first year since taking on a range of services and assets from Somerset Council.
A spokesperson said: “What a year it’s been! We’ve worked hard to protect the things our community cares about, while also starting to shape a more local, people-focused way of doing things.
“One of the biggest wins has been the Kings Arms Community Hub (below) — it’s quickly turned into a buzzing space where people connect, get support, and make great things happen.
“Our park (above) and open spaces around the town are looking better than they have for a long time thanks to a team who truly care about what they do.
“From new community projects to quicker, more responsive services, this year has really shown what’s possible when decisions are made by the people who actually live here.
“Town and parish councils are the closest tier of government to the community and that means we get to be agile, creative, and properly rooted in local life.
“Wellington’s first year on this journey has been a brilliant example of that. Here’s to doing even more together!”
I moved to Wellington 5 years ago having lived outside Weston super Mare in the same bungalow for 49 years. I cannot recall naming half a dozen people who lived around my home. Within two weeks of moving to Wellington I had been invited to join several neighbours for coffee etc and made to feel very much at home. There is a very friendly feel of community here and the facilities made available to the locals deserve every respect. I congratulate their enthusiasm and devotion. Keep it up please.
