The crowds turned out in big numbers to welcome the first of the summer season’s concerts hosted by the Friends of Wellington Park today (Sunday).
Beatles tribute act Get Back were the first of the musical acts to appear on the bandstand at Wellington Park this year.
They provided music to dance to, to sing along with and just to listen to, not only under the gazebos next to the bandstand but on the grass around the park.
The numbers of individuals, couples and groups assembling in the park every Sunday during the summer months – even when the weather is not perfect – show that the concerts are a seen as a delightful way for people of all ages just to get together to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment in a lovely environment, newly and very attractively planted with the summer’s flowers.
The concerts which take place every Sunday from 2.30pm to 4.30pm until 30th August are free but donations are welcome to cover the cost of the acts. The Friends of Wellington Park – all of them volunteers – provide refreshments too.
Next Sunday – 14th June – Disco Cactus will be on the stage from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
