A 3G sports pitch at Court Fields School, development of the proposed railway station site and a replacement mast in Scott’s Lane were all discussed by Wellington Town Council planners last night (Monday).
3G PITCH
Proposal: Installation of artificial grass pitch, siting of storage container, installation of floodlighting and associated works at Court Fields School.
The planning committee agreed to recommend approval by Somerset Council.
RAILWAY STATION SITE
Proposal: Outline application with all matters reserved, except for access, for a mixed-use development of up to 220 dwellings, employment land, a car park and internal spine road to facilitate a rail halt/station, public open space, drainage and associated infrastructure on land north of Taunton Road, Longforth Park.
The planning committee agreed to recommend approval although there were some concerns about proposed four-storey buildings and members also wanted to ensure good pedestrian and cycle access.
SCOTT’S LANE MAST
Proposal: Notification for prior approval for the removal of mast and antenna and installation of a 22.3metre-high street pole with six antenna, two dishes, relocation of ground-based equipment cabinets and associated ancillary development thereto on land at Scott’s Lane, Wellington.
The planning committee agreed to recommend that the application be rejected on the grounds that the replacement mast was too tall, would be overbearing and would set a precedent for other masts of a similar height in the town.
And where is the proposal for the following?
New senior school.
New doctors’ surgery.
I think we have enough new housing as we do not have the infrastructure to cope now.
