Local firefighters were on hand this week to provide shoppers at the Wellington branch of Waitrose with timely advice on fire safety. Their ‘Acting to Protect and Save’ campaign offers all kinds of helpful tips about keeping homes safe, both over Christmas and throughout the year.
Watch Manager Derek Ridgeway said, “It’s significant that we’re at Waitrose on the first day it has become fully operational after being seriously damaged by fire in July. We hope to take the campaign to Asda before Christmas.”
‘Home Safety this Christmas’ covers specific advice about candles and matches, tree lights and kitchen safety as well as ways of ensuring Christmas trees and decorations are not fire hazards. There’s useful advice too regarding fire safety for visitors – including rescue plans and location of door and window keys.
