Park rocks to Rockin’ Ronnie

Lower temperatures than recently made no difference at all to the hundreds of people enjoying this week’s free concert hosted by the Friends of Wellington Park.

There might even have been more dancers on the floor – and in the sunshine too, not just in the shade.

Wellington Park is a beautiful place for relaxation on a Sunday afternoon with the flowerbeds looking gorgeous and the fountain playing.

But the main action is at the bandstand where, this week, Rockin’ Ronnie’s mix of ballads, rock and Elvis went down especially well.

The concerts take place every Sunday from 2.30pm to 4.30pm until the end of August.

Refreshments are available and donations which help to cover the cost of the acts are very welcome.

While dancing is increasingly popular – and always delightfully uninhibited – so is simply sitting around the bandstand, just listening and enjoying the summer.

Next week sees the return of the ever-popular Rod Thomas.
