Wellington RFC has launched a fundraising appeal to replace the floodlights at the Athletic Ground.
It is aiming to raise £15,000 towards the total cost of about £40,000.

Wellington RFC was founded in 1874 by the Fox family and has been at the heart of the town ever since.
The club has grown over the years and currently supports 17 teams, with players of all ages and abilities through sport, community, and belonging.
Over the years, we’ve expanded our grounds and facilities to provide an environment for our players to safely exercise and our members to gather and socialise.
We also open our facilities for several local community clubs to utilise and allow local schools the use of our pitch for sports days and matches.
However, our current pitch lighting, installed over 35 years ago, is now obsolete, costly to run, and limits safe use of our pitches.
We are therefore proposing an upgrade to LED floodlights, which will:
• reduce energy use and carbon emissions;
• lower long-term running costs;
• improve safety and visibility:;
• enable more year-round training and community use;
• and reduce light spill on to neighbouring properties.
The total project cost is approximately £40,000.
We’ve secured match funding from Sport England, meaning if we raise £15,000, they will contribute a further £15,000, bringing total support to £30,000.
Each of our club teams are actively fundraising, and we are also appealing to the wider Wellington community, local firms and sponsors to help us reach this target.
