Town council confirms opposition to Oldway Road homes

Town councillors discussed the latest on plans to build up to 250 homes off Oldway Road when they met last night (Monday).

Earlier this year, Somerset Council turned down an application by Pegasus Planning Group for the 3.7-acre development on the Monument/southern side of the relief road.

There was widespread opposition to the proposal including from the town council and Wellington Without Parish Council, which includes the site within its boundary.

Hundreds of protesters also attended two demonstrations, organised by the Protect Wellington campaign group.

Developers planning to appeal the refusal of the scheme have now launched a community consultation

Wellington Town Council issued the following statement after last night’s meeting: “The council resolved not to respond to the consultation being undertaken by Pegasus Group as it is not part of the formal planning process.

“The council opposes the application as a matter of principle and will be ensuring that its position is clear as part of any appeal.”
