Staff and students were delighted in another year where GCSE results broke school records, with 78% of the Year 11 group achieving at least 5 A*-C grades. Against the UK national trends, Court Fields also saw a rise in the percentage of students who achieved an A or A* grade. 59 students out of the Year group of 153 students achieved the highest grades of A or A* in at least one subject.
The most outstanding student for this year was Alex Dyson, who achieved 9 A*s, 3 As, 1 B and an A at AS level in Use of Maths. Other students who did particularly well were Nicole Brown who achieved 2 A*s, 3 As, 5 Bs, 2 Cs and an E at AS Level Maths; Sarah Brown (3 A*s, 2 As, 5 Bs and 2 Cs); Amy Gillard (1 A*, 4 As, 6 Bs and 1 C); Stuart Kenworthy (1 A*, 5 As, 3 Bs and 3 Cs); Victoria Lane (8 As, 4 Bs, 1 C and an E in AS Level Maths); Emily Sage (1 A*, 6 As, and 5 Bs), Rhiannon Sampson (2 A*s, 6 As, 2 Bs and 1 C), Adam Stephens (2 A*s, 2 As, 4 Bs, 3 Cs and a B at AS Level Maths), Charlotte Strawbridge (1 A*, 7 As, 1 B and 2 Cs); and Tom Swain (3 A*s, 5 As, 1 B and 3 Cs).
Headteacher, Elaine Faull, said she was delighted with the achievement of all of the students, but along with other schools nationally, she had concerns about the apparent change in marking for core areas of English and Maths. This was disappointingly lower than had been expected and therefore staff would be scrutinising these results very carefully before appealing to the Exam Boards.
Other successes include students who took a Vocational Diploma in partnership with Somerset College and West Somerset Community College. Results for these courses were some of the highest in the school. For Level 2 courses in Engineering, Society, Health & Development, Environmental & Land Based Studies, Hair & Beauty, and Creative & Media. Over 20% of the students achieved a Vocational award as well as GCSE passes.
