Pupils from Years 3 to 6 at Wellesley Park Primary School celebrated their Harvest Festival with staff, parents and friends at Wellington Baptist Church this week.
The poignant service including songs, readings by children of their own writing and reminders in words and music of the importance of harvest donations at a time when so many are struggling to survive in countries around the world.
The children’s generous harvest gifts are to go to the charity Care4Calais which provides support – clothing, food, toiletries and washing products – for refugees in the camp in the French port.
Earlier this term the pupils heard about the camp first-hand when ex Wellesley Park pupil Ellie Griffiths gave them an account of her own experience in visiting the so-called ‘Jungle’ in Calais. Ellie’s father, Rev Sam Griffiths, is Pastor of Wellington Baptist Church.
