Wellington Theatre Company is looking for six feisty women to auditions for its production of Steel Magnolias.
Combining light-hearted comedy and quirky characters with a serious, heart-rending storyline, Steel Magnolias has appealed to audiences both onstage and in its popular 1989 film adaptation, which has become a cult hit. The movie starred Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, and Julia Roberts.
The play will be directed by Rachel Buttell – Rachel’s first outing as Director for the Taunton Thespians’ The Taming of the Shrew, won a number of awards, including best Shakespeare production. She’s been involved in a number of plays in Somerset, her favourite being Calendar Girls with W.T.C. 3 years ago. She’s especially pleased to be asked to direct Steel Magnolias, and aims to make it a vibrant and memorable rendition of what is many people’s favourite film.
