This Thursday is polling day to elect a Town Councillor Wellington South. “I am one of the candidates,” says Marie Troake”But I am just writing to urge everyone – especially young people – to get out and vote.
“You might have been happy to pass up voting in local elections in the past. But think about it, you might not be so happy to see bus services lost, the Children’s Centre closed or less and less attention being paid to the need for jobs and support for people who need them. These are just some of the the kinds of things Local Councils do!
“Our best assets are our youth, they need to be engaged with and included at all levels of our decision-making. We need to ensure that their future is built on hope and respect. For us to tap into this huge asset we have to provide them with a sound foundation; right education, apprenticeships and a secure well paid jobs.”
In a couple of weeks we will be remembering the many thousands of people who gave their lives to protect and preserve our democracy. If you live in Wellington South please show everyone that it still matters and cast your vote in this local election. However you vote it matters, especially if you have never done so before.
