Kardiez, a new shop on the High Street which opened on 1 November in premises formerly occupied by Jilly, Tilly and Boo, brings to the town centre a new retail opportunity for shoppers.
Owner Heidi-Ann McCarthy has found a gap in Wellington’s market, stocking the shop with vibrant clothes, paint and craft aprons, games and toys for babies and children up to 5 years old. She also sells greetings cards, wrapping paper, Christmas crackers and decorations and knitting wools.
Heidi has lived in Wellington ‘all her life’ apart from 6 years in Cyprus. She said, “I had a business over there selling greetings cards and knitting wool. I came back to Wellington in 2012 and when I decided to do something again this year, I looked around to see what we didn’t have and everybody was saying that there was nowhere which sold baby clothing – so that’s why we’re here.”
Heidi took over the shop on 1 August and has spent the last three months fitting it out herself. “I’m really proud of it,” she said. And there’s more to come. Heidi said she’d like to add books for babies and young children to her stock in time.
From the evidence of a brief visit it seems as though word has already travelled to local mums and carers that there are some delightful clothes to buy at Kardiez – including some very cute Christmas items.
