Self-help wins pre-school support

Court Fields pre-school has been given a grant of £1000 by the town council towards the costs of moving from the high school to a new location in the Youth Centre.

Essential alterations to the new site were expected to cost £32,000 and be largely funded by Somerset County council who had encouraged the move to meet rising pre-school demand. However, SCC budget cuts meant that the operation had to become one of self-help, with parents and volunteers doing the work themselves.

They responded with everything from bringing a digger to remodel the garden to power-washing the decking. And Greggs even supplied cakes to keep them going through the weekends.
