Who let this mad cow into Corrie? Kirsty is just the nastiest piece of work ever to set foot on the Street. Her combination of deceit, violence and selfishness makes it agony to watch the nation’s favourite soap right now.
Fair enough you say, but Kirsty’s only the latest in a line of Corrie witches. What about Tracey Barlow? We all know she killed Charlie with a frying pan and now boasts of getting away with it. Tracey even conned Roy Cropper into thinking he could be Amy’s dad. Roy, for God’s sake.
But Tracey makes us laugh and gasp. Her asides and insults are worthy of Dorothy Parker. When did Kirsty ever say or do anything funny? Her unrelenting nastiness is breathtaking. Granted that Tyrone’s way of bleating Rubeeeh could make any woman want to give him a slap, that’s still no excuse for the beatings the bent ex-copper has dished out.
OK, free pass for Tracey but what about Carla? Hard as nails, drunk as a skunk and more slap than Joan Collins. What kind of a female role model is she for our daughters? Quite a good one really. Carla would rather die in a ditch than let her business go under, sees the sexist world of Manchester knickers as it truly is, and I’ve never spotted her telling a fib.
Anyone who’s put in a few decades with Corrie could tell you that the underlying theme of strong women and weak men has underpinned the script since Tony Warren wrote Episode One. Elsie Tanner, Bet Lynch, Eileen Grimshaw…need one say more?
The difference is that Kirsty isn’t strong or entertaining or even believable. For God’s sake let’s get rid of her somehow and reclaim the Street!
