Wellington is definitely flavour-of-the-month with ITV News. After featuring both the Hard Times Cafe and local photographer Anita Corbin within the last two weeks, a film crew was in town yet again this week – and in preparation for a live broadcast from Wellington next week. Look out for the satellite trucks outside the Old Sale Rooms!
With the budget on 20th March, ITV News has chosen Wellington as a perfect ‘case study’ town and spent a day filming local businesses and asking budget-related questions. Amongst those interviewed were Tim Potter, master butcher, Mike Pidgeon, motor engineer, and Relyon MD Andy Murdoch.
Estate agent Nick Girone-Maddocks, manager of Gibbins Richards, wa also interviewed and suggested changes in Stamp Duty, the rising cost of fuel and government assistance for the second-hand home market (similar to the assistance available to buyers on New Homes) as ‘vitally important’ to the success and continued recovery of the rural housing market.
Nick said “Whilst the market continues to recover, it is now at this point in the year when all the obstacles that we face need to be dealt with to give everyone an excellent springboard into the spring and summer”. The items will go out on ITV West news first at 6pm on Tuesday 19th and then at 6pm on Wednesday 20th for a ‘live broadcast budget reaction’, featuring many local businesses.
