Midway through the Rotary Club’s pop-up bookshop project in the town centre, sales are booming. Club secretary Symon Jeffrey reports:
“What a fantastic job everyone. So far we have raised the following:
Saturday 13th April – £1,438.00
Sunday 14th April – £289.00
Monday 15th April – £460.00
Tuesday 16th April – £320.00
“This makes a grand total of £2507
“Last year we were just able to pip the post at £5000 and if we can try and achieve £500 today, Thursday and Friday with the possibility of £1000 on Saturday, we may just reach this again. Either way, what a fantastic amount for our charities.
“A big Thank You goes out to everyone that helped in the lead up to the book sale, from the organizational side, placing adverts in the papers, delivering leaflets, collecting books and of course the set-up of the shop and the sorting of books leading up to the event.”
Organiser Brian Withers said, “We’ve received between two and three thousand books this year, about the same as were donated last year. We’re extremely grateful for the way local people have supported us.
“We hope to raise about £4,000 which will all go to the Children’s Hospice South West, W.H.E.R.E, the Alzheimers’ Society and Rotary Charities. I think people have responded generously because we’re raising money for charities with which they can identify. Last year we raised £5,000. It would be good to get close to this total again.”
