Friday night sees a mini-festival of folk music in Milverton. Young folk musicians from the area are getting together to play an evening of their songs at the Victoria Rooms. Organisers Milverton Music explained: “It’s an evening for up and coming musicians local to the area to come together in a varied concert of young talent.”
There are five acts altogether:
Adam Sweet is busy forging himself a reputation as a singer, blues man, par-excellence. He has played the club once before and we welcome him back from his busy schedule for an extended slot. His great voice and driving guitar style mark him out as a musician really going places.
Ben and Alfie Weedon are no strangers to the club and have been playing for us since they were very young. The boys have matured into very talented musicians writing their own material and building a considerable reputation in a very short time. They will be performing at the Village Pump Festival this year and are a duo worth waiting for.
Kitty Macfarlane has played at the club many times and on each occasion delights the audience with her voice, songs, and musicianship. Already a star of the Radio Four travel show and The Village Pump Folk Festival. She is back from Uni for the Easter break and it will be a pleasure to listen to her again.
Alice Sharland and James Gilgrist have performed all around the area and joined us at the Village Pump Folk Festival in 2012. Alice’s beautiful voice complimented by James’s tasteful guitar playing bring a new life to some great songs. A treat is in store.
Darren Hodge is possibly one of the most talented young guitarists in the country. He played the club about a year ago and since then has played at many festivals and clubs throughout the UK. He was recently invited to share the stage and play with one of the 20th century’s greatest guitarists and a true international star, Tommy Emmanuel. Darren is a phenomenal talent who will astound you with his virtuosity.
