Wellington apprentice brewer, Dean Masters, 19, has scooped Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the Weston College’s Excellence in Business Training Awards 2013 at the Winter Gardens, Weston-super Mare. And, to acknowledge his success, he saw his own bottled bitter served at an event that is regarded as Weston College’s ‘Oscars’, attended by 300 people to honour the achievements of apprentices and businesses.
Dean, who works for Master’s Brewery in Wellington, was also Highly Commended in the Hospitality Learner of the Year category both for his creative skills and the way he has overhauled the independent brewery’s website.
He said: “It’s fantastic to win the awards and see my specially brewed 4.3 per cent bitter served up. I’ve also designed and brewed a 7.5 per cent IPA style beer using fresh mangoes which we have called Hawaiian Dwarf, plus a mint and chocolate Imperial Stout brewed using local ingredients which includes fresh mint and Willies Cacao chocolate from Uffculme at a huge 10 per cent ABV”
It is hoped that Dean’s beers and others from Masters Brewery will feature in the Wellington Food Town Festival on 7 September.
