Are you and your pets ready for the party season, asks Charlotte Freeman of Mount Vets? With the nights drawing in and the temperatures dropping, our thoughts turn to Carnival and Bonfire Night. For many pets who suffer from Firework or Noise Phobia this time of year can be very stressful.
Recent studies have shown that around 80% of the cats and dogs in the UK suffer from some form of noise phobia and many of these problems increase with time if not addressed.
Normal fears are a natural response to protect ourselves from harm. Dogs with noise phobia will show an exaggerated response to the pops, whizzes and bangs of fireworks and will exhibit behaviours such as panting, whining or destructiveness. Stressed cats may start to overgroom, inappropriately urinate in the house, or hide away. Here are some pointers to help your pet cope:
