Veronica Cooney, a Year 3 teacher at Wellington Junior School has shaved her luscious locks for charity. Pupils were surprised to see Mrs Cooney walking into assembly without her trademark dark curls.
The dramatic step was to augment the growing fund of money raised by Wellington Junior School for funds for Shelterbox, who provide emergency shelter and supplies for families affected by disasters.
Veronica has a Just Giving site for her fundraising (www.justgiving.com/VeronicaCooney) which has already raised over £1000. She is also donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs for children who suffer hair loss due to cancer treatment.
So far the school has raised a fantastic £4500, from a variety of activities such as an Own Clothes day, for Shelterbox which will buy four of the charity’s kits, which will help families affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
