Wellington now has its own town centre app. Smart phone users will be able to access details of all shopping, food and leisure, services, and accommodation, as well as viewing pages about the town’s history and special places of interest.
The app was sponsored by Taunton Deane Borough Council and accountants BJ Dixon Walsh, and fully supported by the Wellington Business Association.
“This is the first app that Taunton Deane has supported,” said TDBC economic development officer Hattie Winter. “It’s about supporting local businesses and promoting inward investment.”
“Our firm is very keen to help the use of modern IT technology to help develop business in Wellington and the surrounding area,” said Rob Cadwallader of co-sponsors B J DixonWalsh.
The Wellington Business Association compiled the database and information in the app, and worked closely with Wellington-based Town Guide Apps, throughout its technical production.
“The app enables retailers and others to use the latest technology to market their businesses and attract customers, for example by informing users of any special offers or sale items, or activities and events they may be holding.” Commented Ian Stock, Chair of WBA.
The app is available for both Android devices and IPhone and is simple to download and use. The app for Androids can be downloaded from Google apps store.
“We’ve developed over 30 apps across the UK, including four others in Somerset. It’s expanding every day,” said developer Jack Thompson of TownGuideApps.Com. “Businesses that don’t have their own website, for example, find it really useful to promote themselves.”
The app has separate broad categories – shopping, services, food and leisure – which in turn include a number of different sectors within which are listed the businesses and organisations in the town. The app also includes an A-Z listing of businesses, a map of Wellington and a section for special offers that businesses may like to make to customers.
