Support for the Wellington WI has been beyond all expectation in its first year, writes Erica Bond. We have grown to nearly 90 members and are currently the largest WI in Somerset.
The One Year Birthday celebration was held on Thursday 16th January at 7.30pm at the Beambridge Inn. We were entertained in style by the fabulous and memorable all female Somerset Hills Chorus. As a four-part vocal harmony group they are well known for giving flawless and highly entertaining renditions of both classic ballads and more modern melodies. They gave a memorable performance enjoyed by all.
There was lots of yummy cakes (as always!) but we also had a very special Birthday Cake made by Becky Allder, of Ballderdash and Bunting. The cake had been artistically created in our Monumental Women colour of purple!
We were later joined by Lea-Ann Furphy who is a local yoga teacher. She gave us an interesting and entertaining talk on Yoga, took us through some arm chair exercises and also taught us some relaxation techniques! A calming end to a busy evening!!
This first birthday highlights that as a group we have something very special. Great friendships have been made between women in the community of all ages in this first year and the Wellington WI has provided a great source of fun, networking opportunities, heightened self-esteem and self-worth as well as being a source of empowerment and education to women through activities, clubs and friendships. We are looking forward to many more birthdays to come!

We have a number of groups that meet regularly, including book group, craft group, creative writing group, pub quizzes, skittles and an outdoor group. We also have many trips, dinners, adventures, holidays, workshops and theatre visits planned so why not come and give us a try!
