Court Fields school’s production of Hairspray, went down a storm with wonderful Wellington audiences – the cast were pleased to perform to two packed houses, as the production sold out on both nights.
Some excellent examples of ensemble work were on display, for example in the whole cast’s performance of ‘Good Morning Baltimore’ and the School Sock Hop cast dance ‘The Madison’ as well as the finale song ‘You Can’t Stop The Beat’.
There were some outstanding performances from individuals within the cast, particularly from Year 11 students Joanna Cooper as ‘Tracey Turnblad’ and Tom Kelvey as ‘Link Larkin’ (pictured) who gave assured, detailed performances in these key roles, demonstrating a great ability to communicate with their enthusiastic audience.
Year 9 student Ashleigh Payne as ‘Edna Turnblad’ proved to be a real scene stealer with impeccable comic timing and his duet ‘Timeless To Me’ with Husband ‘Wilbur’ skilfully played by Year 11 student Oliver Swain was one of the highlights of the show. Georgia Channon, another Year 11 student as ‘Velma Von Tussle’ gave a clear, commanding performance and her daughter ‘Amber Von Tussle’ was played by Abi Lockyer, a Year 8 student who showed a great deal of promise in this role.
