The profile of Wellington Farmers’ Market in the centre of the town every second Saturday has been raised one again: it has relocated its indoor stalls from the Scouts’ Hall to the newly refurbished Community Centre in White Hart Lane.
This is the latest in a series of changes that the Wellington Farmers’ Market (WFM) Committee has made over the last year. The decision was taken last summer to move some of the stalls from the Scouts’ Hall out on to the street in response to the growing popularity of locally sourced and produced foods sold by local traders. Originally, the market was only held on one Saturday each month but it became a fortnightly event due to public interest and demand. As a result, this greater visibility for traders has led to more customers – both from the town and from motorists passing through.
Now the indoor market has relocated to the Community Centre, making a clearer link between pavement traders in the High Street and Fore Street and the indoor market. “We know our customers will find this much more convenient,” said Julian Fox, Chairman of WFM. “And there are more developments to come. We’re talking to 5 new traders at the moment so customers should look out for more stalls over the next few months. We’ve already invited local producers of chocolates & truffles, charcuterie & chilli sauces to join us.
