Move over China, Wellington is a maths hot-spot and the stats prove it. Government league tables for Somerset show Wellington School as the best performing in the county at Maths GCSE and now the school has won a prestigious regional maths competition.
A team from Years 10 & 11 beat off all competition in a nail-biting contest at Millfield School. Lydia Buckingham, Sam Aird, Sam Rowsell and Zac Summerfield won the competition and were 22 points in front of the second-placed team, with opposition scores ranging from 36 to their 135.
“We are delighted with the outcome of this competition” remarked Victoria Richardson, Maths teacher at Wellington School. “The Maths department here is vibrant and the standard immensely high.”
“This hotly-contested competition involved 14 teams from schools all over Somerset, and we are so pleased to have come top amongst them all,” concluded Mrs Richardson.
