Wellington Library has reopened its doors today (Monday), welcoming the community back to its historic Fore Street location after being refurbished.
Everyone is welcome to join the official opening by the Mayor of Wellington, Cllr Janet Lloyd, at 11am on Wednesday.
The library, which has been a cornerstone of the community since 1969, underwent significant upgrades while temporarily housed in North Street.
What’s new?
- Enhanced accessibility: improved access for both staff and visitors across all floors.
- Community connection: new spaces designed to foster community engagement, partnerships, and provide comprehensive advice and guidance.
- The children’s library has a great new space, and the team is excited to offer more flexible events and activities for the whole community
- Eco-friendly upgrades: increased thermal efficiency in line with Somerset Council’s Climate Emergency Strategy
Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, Executive Lead Member for Communities, Housing, and Culture, said: “We’re thrilled to have Wellington Library back in Fore Street.
”The upgraded premises will serve as a vibrant hub for both the local community and visitors.”
Wellington and all Somerset Libraries offer so much more than just an extensive collection of books. They provide a wide range of services, including digital resources, community events, health and wellbeing support, and even business and employment advice.
Information for customers
Wellington Library opening hours are, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9.30am – 5pm, and Thursday and Saturday 9.30am -1pm.

What an improvement!!! Great to see the smiles on the staff’s and customer’s faces. All ages catered for and a really good example of what intelligent use of public funds can generate. Even if you are not a regular user it is really worth your while popping in. A facility to be proud of.
