Food Town is here again, for the ninth year and bigger and better than ever – plus live demonstrations from headline chefs.
“We’ve got 70 traders booked in and that’s a new record, plus more registering every day,” said chair of the organisers Donna Munson.
An exciting new development is to have a rota of professional chefs cooking at a Demonstration Kitchen set up in the Scout Hall.
First up at 1200 is Maia English, a young talent who at 16 she has just started her apprenticeship at the Michelin starred Gidleigh Park. She will be cooking her award-winning dish of caramelized Brixham scallops with celeriac purée and crispy pancetta. www.gidleigh.com
Get your seats at 1300 to see Brad Edrich. Brad is a young chef with an impressive CV; Fat Duck at Bray, Cafe Royal (London), Clavelshay Barn (Somerset) and now heading up the team at the refurnished The Bath Arms near Cheddar. Brad will be cooking a tasty, quick fish dish. www.batharms.co.uk
At 1400 will be the Somerset Curry Club. A pop-up restaurant and cooking school tutors Chandeep and Manveena will be cooking Indian Street Food, simple snacks you will crave!
Closing the show with an awesome demonstration at 1500 Stefano Salvati of Stefano’s Homemade Food will be preparing quick, authentic Italian food. Stefano specialises in home cooked Italian food that you can recreate at home using local ingredients. www.stefanoshomemadefood.co.uk
“As well as the chefs it’s the second time we’ll be using both South St and the High St, with Open Mic stages for live music on both streets. With a good weather forecast it could be the biggest Food town yet,” said Donna
