A busy festive programme for Wellington Chiefs and Wellington AFC gets under way this weekend – although the weather has already taken its toll.
The Chiefs, still searching for their first win of the season, are back on home turf today (Saturday).
They host mid-table Crediton in Tribute South West Regional Two, ko 2.30pm, with the club’s Christmas Lunch taking place in the clubhouse from noon.
A pitch inspection was successful and so the game definitely goes ahead.
Meanwhile, Wellington 2nds are away to Martock while there’s no fixture for the Vixens.
After this weekend, all eyes will turn to Boxing Day with the traditional holiday derby match taking place at Wiveliscombe this year.
It will be a stern test for the Chiefs after last year’s draw – Wivey are enjoying a fine season and are currently top of Counties One Western West.
The game between the clubs’ 2nd XVs kicks off at 11am, followed by the 1st XV match at 2.15pm with another big crowd expected.
In football, the Tangerines will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s agonising 2-1 defeat by league leaders Clevedon Town.
They are on their travels this afternoon with a trip to Brislington in the premier division of the Jewson Western League.
However, Wellington Reserves’ game v Crediton United 2nds and the Wildcats Ladies’ match against Banwell have both been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at the Carly Press Ground while the A team are without a fixture.
Like the Chiefs, the Tangerines have a tough game on Boxing Day – they welcome in-form Barnstaple Town to the Carly Press Ground, ko 1pm.
