Wellington Fire Station are asking people to take care when discarding rubbish following a fire in a refuse vehicle yesterday (Thursday).
They report: “There was a plume of smoke seen by one of the refuse workers.
“Crews exhausted every option to inspect the load but unfortunately had to dump the load.
“The fire burned out but inspection was needed to ensure the vehicle and staff were safe.
“When discarding rubbish, please ensure no hot ash or batteries are discarded.
“For batteries, please consult your local recycling centre.”
