Ladies triumph in Watchet bowls triples

Twelve teams of triples entered an all-day ladies’ competition at Watchet Bowling Club – and Wellington were the winners.

Lisa Dart, Marguerite Nichols and skip Gill Groves won all four games of eight ends to lift the trophy.

It was a very hot day so the club had done everything it could to make sure everyone playing had cold drinks available and teas, biscuits and an excellent lunch.

The trio defeated Bridgwater in a close battle by nine shots to four, then another team from Wellington 15–2 and then a third win against Minehead by nine shots to three.

With one game to play, four teams were in the running for the trophy.

Gill’s team were up against Bridgwater’s Victoria Park and led by ten shots to two.

They then added insult to injury by scoring eight shots in the last end to win the game, and the trophy, 18–2.
