Wellington Town Council has reaffirmed its opposition to any plans for housing on the Monument side of the Relief Road.
Earlier this year, Somerset Council turned down the application by Pegasus Planning Group for a 3.7-acre development of up to 250 homes off Oldway Road.
There was widespread opposition to the proposal including from the town council and Wellington Without Parish Council, which includes the site within its boundary.
Hundreds of protesters also attended two demonstrations, organised by the Protect Wellington campaign group.
Although Pegasus has yet to appeal against the decision, town councillors this week discussed what action to take it one was lodged with the Planning Inspectorate.
A statement issued after the meeting said: “Wellington Town Council remains committed to opposing any development on land south of Oldway Road.
“Should Pegasus appeal against the decision of Somerset Council not to grant planning permission for its proposed development, the town council will seek advice about how best to present its position at any planning inquiry, up to and including applying for Rule 6 status which will give it equal status to Somerset Council and the developer at the inquiry.”
