A busy stretch of road into and out of Wellington is set to be re-named after Queen Elizabeth II.
Under the proposal, Taunton Road between Chelston roundabout and the junction with Priory will be known as Queen Elizabeth Way.
At their August meeting, members of Wellington Town Council were told Somerset Council had agreed to the change and notices would be published and posted at either end of the road this week, giving people time to object.
A report said: “The proposal supports the council’s wider vision by recognising and celebrating local identity, heritage and civic pride.
“Renaming this section of road as Queen Elizabeth Way provides a visible and lasting acknowledgement of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s service, while contributing to a clear sense of place for residents, businesses and visitors.”
Although some members opposed the re-naming, councillors approved the £1,731 cost of ordering and installing four new road signs.

I have nothing against the late Queen Elizabeth but I consider this naming of the road, complete nonsense!
