Congratulations to Wellington footballer Brooke Aspin on making her debut for England U23s away to the Netherlands today (Thursday).
She came on as a second half substitute as the Young Lionesses drew 1-1 with the hosts, who scored with the last kick of the game.
Brooke is a regular for the U19s and her only previous call-up to the U23s squad last year was foiled by injury.
The Young Lionesses are beginning their 2024-25 season with two fixtures in the WU23 European competition.
After playing the Netherlands, they welcome Portugal to the Croud Meadow Stadium, home of Shrewsbury Town, on Tuesday.
Brooke, a 19-year-old former pupil of Court Fields School, recently joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan and played in their 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Sunday.
After helping Bristol City to promotion, the highly-rated defender signed a four-year contract with Chelsea – the Women’s Super League champions – in July of last year.
Brooke then returned to Bristol City on loan to continue her development last season and has now joined newly promoted Palace in the WSL.
During the summer, she played for England in the UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship in Lithuania and was captain in their semi-final defeat by Spain.
