A very special cycle ride is taking place from Henley-on-Thames to Wellington Rugby Club this Friday and Saturday.
The Chiefs say: “Many of you will know that, at the end of last year, we lost our friend Matt Taylor. On Friday, over 40 of Matt’s friends, teammates and family will embark on a cycle ride from his home in Henley-on-Thames to Wellington Rugby Club. The ride will be over 150 miles in two days. The group are all amateur cyclists of varying abilities, age, shapes and sizes!
“The group will set out on Friday, aiming to cycle into Wellington around lunchtime on Saturday. The ride is not for charity or to raise money – the ride is an opportunity for Matt’s friends to remember him.
“For those of you that were lucky enough to know or have met Matt, you’ll know what an infectious character he was, and what a ball of energy he was to be around. Matt had previously entered cycle events too, so it’s a fitting way for his friends and family to come together.
“Matt worked hard, trained hard, played hard and partied hard … and this group aim to do the same. This group will ‘Ride 4 Tay …’
They added: “Please feel free to come down and see the riders in on Saturday afternoon. The clubhouse will be open from 1pm.”
Meanwhile, on the subject of cycling, a big race is happening locally this weekend.
Wellington Town Council says: “On Saturday and Sunday, the National 25-mile Time Trial Championships will be taking place.
“Between 7am and 9.30am, cyclists will be taking part in this race which will see them pass briefly through Wellington, mostly on the B3181 and the A38. These cyclists aim to minimise disruption and marshals will be in place to guide them.”
Matt was an incredible young man and this is an amazing tribute to him from many who knew him. Good luck to all involved on this huge journey.
