WESSL Wooden Spoon Play-Off: Odds and Ends 364, Report Centre A 318
Odds and Ends secured victory in the Wooden Spoon play-off final at the Football Club, defeating Report Centre A by 46 pins to ensure their opponents finished bottom of the Wellington Ex-Services Skittles League standings.
Skittling first, Odds and Ends made an excellent start and immediately put pressure on Report Centre A, opening with a strong first-hand total of 74.
From there, they controlled the match throughout, consistently outscoring their opponents in every hand and never allowing the gap to close significantly.
Dan Smith led the way superbly with the top score of the match, an impressive 56, while James Jones provided excellent support with 55. Theo Ling also chipped in with a valuable 52 as Odds and Ends tightened their grip on the match,
For Report Centre A, Alan Baker’s 44 was the highlight on a difficult night, while John Cottrell, Pat Blight and Will Blight all added steady 41s.
However, the Friday night side struggled to produce the big individual score needed to put Odds and Ends under pressure, and the deficit steadily grew as the game progressed.
By the closing stages, Odds and Ends had effectively put the result beyond doubt, eventually finishing comfortable winners.
The league’s thanks go to Lucas who stuck up, to the Football Club for hosting the match, and to the two sides who played the game in good spirits.
