Wellington Silver Band’s Proms in the Park last night (Saturday) attracted a huge crowd, both next to the bandstand and across the whole park area.
Big groups of families and friends gathered around picnics – some even bringing tables – and, on a warm, sunny evening, the scene was set for simple enjoyment.
Not only was there band music to share but also song sheets which invited audience participation – and many did.
As well as the song sheets, the band also provided over 200 free, hand-held union flags which were shared out between the audience.
There was a bar and food too and, with music in such a perfect setting, it was a wonderful way for everyone to enjoy a beautiful evening.
The band played songs by artists such as Taylor Swift, Queen, Elton John, Robbie Williams and Elbow, and the evening culminated with the traditional Proms finale.
During the concert, the band also presented the proceeds of their recent charity concert to Children’s Hospice South West.
So wish I could have been there conducting the band. Back this week!
