Police advice for a safe Halloween

Avon and Somerset Police have issued the following advice for Halloween …

If you’re planning on trick-or-treating this year, please remember to look out for homes displaying a ‘Sorry, No Trick or Treaters’ poster.

For many, Halloween is a night of fun, fancy dress and sweets. But for some, unexpected knocks at the door and increased activity in their neighbourhood can feel unsettling.

Parents and carers can help by reminding children to:

Only knock at homes that look welcoming to visitors. Houses with pumpkins and decorations are often a sign that they’re taking part.

Respect ‘Sorry, no trick or treaters’ posters and move on to the next house.

Stay with younger children and keep to well-lit areas.

Be considerate of older residents, people living alone and those who may find repeated knocks at the door distressing.

Respect people’s property and leave decorations exactly as you found them.
