Thirty-five local families have had a special Christmas delivery yesterday (Sunday), thanks to the Potters Pounds scheme.
They each received a nutritious turkey dinner after generous customers at Tim Potter Family Butchers donated money when buying their meat and other produce from the shop in Fore Street .
This year, the scheme has also been supported by Wellington Town Council with Asda providing the vegetables.
Potters Pounds runs in conjunction with five local primary schools – Beech Grove, IKB, St John’s, Wellesley Park and Rockwell Green.
Mandie Huggett, Safeguarding Co-ordinator at Beech Grove Primary School, works alongside Peter Joint, Connect Somerset Area Champion, and Cllr Andrew Govier, Wellington Town Council, to organise delivery of the food, along with helpers Keith Sellick and Ashley Huggett.
Cllr Govier said: “I am so pleased that we have once again been able to provide local families with a nutritious Christmas dinner this year.
“It has only been possible due to the generosity of Tim’s customers and I know the families who have received the meals are extremely grateful.
‘We know that the cost-of-living crisis means Christmas is a difficult time for families on low incomes. It is so encouraging that the community has responded.
“We are very grateful to Tim and his staff for compiling the packs and to Asda for providing all the vegetables.”
