Organisers of Wellington Carnival Street Fair which takes place on Sunday 4th June have received record bookings for this year’s event. 83 stalls will fill both High Street and South Street from 10am until 5pm with a wide range of products on offer. The event is now full and organisers are no longer able to take bookings for more stalls.
Street Fair has grown in popularity over the last few years and this year’s event looks likely to be a huge success as the weather forecast promises a warm, dry day.
Most local shops in the High Street and South Street will also be open and the organisers hope they benefit from the extra footfall generated.
The event will be officially opened by newly appointed Wellington Mayor Gary James who will be accompanied by Rebecca Pow and the current Wellington Carnival Queen and Princesses.
Wellington Majorettes will open the entertainment with their new display before Peppa Pig and her brother George arrive on the High Street on a vintage tractor. They will be present until 12.30pm to provide a photo opportunity for fans.
Carnival Committee Chairman Dave Rylatt said, “Please remember to bring your cameras or phones. There will be a suggested donation of £1 for you to take as many photos as you like. And post your photographs on social media for us all to see.”
There will be a full programme of entertainment provided outside the old Post Office and Rule 7 Bistro 9 in the High Street and outside the Green Dragon in South Street. The organisers would like to take this opportunity to thank all the entertainers for their support of Wellington Carnival.
Wellington Carnival Committee are also pleased to welcome back Elvis (aka Stuart Horne) who will be performing outside the Green Dragon from 3 to 4pm. Dave Rylatt said, “Elvis was extremely popular last year and the organisers respectfully request that he is allowed to ‘leave the building’ on time this year as over-runs play havoc with re-opening the roads! However, Elvis will make a return to Wellington on Saturday 22nd July when he will be performing at the Wellington Football Club. Tickets will be available at the Street Fair.”
Both High Street and South Street will be closed to traffic from 6am until 6pm on 4th June. Diversions will be in place around Bulford and Longforth Road for all traffic including national and local buses. Anyone travelling on national bus routes on Sunday should speak to one of the organisers manning the temporary barriers with HV vests to ensure they get on their bus.
Wellington Street Fair is the main fund raiser for Wellington Carnival, which will take place on September 30th this year.
