Sports fans are spoilt for choice this weekend with Wellington AFC and Wellington Chiefs playing at home – and it’s a big day for both clubs.
In football, the Tangerines embark on a long road to Wembley as they host Sidmouth Town in the second qualifying round of the Isuzu FA Vase, ko 3pm.
Their opponents play at the level below – in the South West Peninsula League’s premier east – but are currently lying third after only one defeat in their eight games so should prove a stern test.
The Vase can be a money-spinner for grassroots clubs with the winners of tomorrow’s tie picking up £725.
Meanwhile, Wellington Reserves hope to build on last week’s fine win over Winkleigh as they travel to play Upottery while the A team are home to Wyvern on the 3G pitch at Court Fields School, ko 2.15pm.
On Sunday, the Wildcats Ladies are away to Middlezoy Ladies but there’s no fixture for the Ladies.
In rugby, Wellington Chiefs welcome past players to their AGM and lunch ahead of the home game against Wadebridge Camels in Tribute South West Regional Two, ko 3pm.
Without several regulars, they went down to a heavy defeat at Newton Abbot last weekend and will be looking to put that right in front of a big crowd at the Athletic Ground.
The 2nds make the short trip to take on Wyvern while, on Sunday, the Vixens also have a local derby – away to Wiveliscombe.
