u3a set for talk on policing

Wellington and District u3a will be holding their next monthly meeting at the Rugby Club in Corams Lane on Monday from 10.15am.

Here is their preview …

Our speaker is Bryan Boon who joined the Metropolitan Police Cadet Force in 1960, became a constable in 1962 and finished his career as a Superintendent.

His illustrated presentation covers police uniform and equipment, walking the beat, communications and vehicle support.

These topics will be interlaced with day-to-day policing activities. Over 60 years have now passed and change is inevitable to meet modern technological and social demands.

Some good things from the past have been lost but others definitely gained. Additionally, some of the problems which haunted policing in the 1960s still exist today.

The u3a is primarily for anyone who is no longer in full-time work and looking to meet people, make new friends, broaden their interests or try something new with like-minded folk who come together to learn, have fun and share life experience.

It’s local, social, friendly, accessible and low-cost so if you haven’t visited before why not take this opportunity to check it out – it might be just what you are looking for!

Entry is free and refreshments are available – you may have two free visits before making a commitment to membership which is very affordable at £15 per annum.
