A Cheshire-based company has put forward plans to build 205 houses and 60 apartments-with care on fields to the west of Rockwell Green.
Despite being outside the area allocated for housing in the Taunton Deane development plan, Gladman Developments are aiming to build homes on the land to west of Bagley Road. It is the second plan of this type within six weeks. Last month another company aplleide for planning permission to build 29 houses next to Pope’s Lane.
Local opposition is building already, with objections coming in to the TDBC planning website.
“As a resident of Wellington I am totally opposed to this application,” wrote Mrs Lynda Russell Cairns. “ Do we really need another 250 houses on top of all the development at Cades Farm, Longforth Farm and Jurston Farm?
“It’s outside the development boundary of Rockwell Green and an intrusion into the countryside and it drives a coach and horses through planning policies if it is approved. The local infrastructure in this area will be under greater pressure, we need more schools and doctors available within Wellington and Rockwell Green and this needs to be addressed. I strongly oppose this application.”
