Wellington Chiefs travelled to neighbours Wiveliscombe yesterday (Saturday) as they put the finishing touches to their preparation for their first league fixtures.
Wiveliscombe, confident after their promotion, started strongly and used the slope to their advantage.
With scrum half Richard Baker running the show they opened up a commanding 22pts-nil lead before star winger Tom Slade finished off a great move to score in the corner to make it 22pts-5 at half-time.
The second half saw Wellington take total control with captain Ollie Price crashing over from short range, Alex Davey’s outrageous dummy fooling the Wivey defence and debutant Kewa Ademuyiwa beating numerous defenders to score a fabulous individual try.
Wellington will rue the three missed conversions but will be delighted with the 22pts-22 final scoreline.
A good day at the office with many plus points and confidence will be high going into the new season against Old Redclffians and Yeovil – both games on Saturday at home, ko 3pm.
