Welly’s oldest –and newest – pub should be open by the end of January. Builders have gutted the interior of the Green Dragon and begun work on refurbishing the South St pub.
“We’re creating a very traditional pub style plus new accommodation and excellent catering,” said Andy Purkiss, regional manager for the new owners.
The former skittle alley will house eight new ensuite bedrooms, with four more upstairs. In a nod to times past, timber and other fittings from the skittle alley are being used to build the new bar area.
A wraparound glass and steel canopy will make the ancient cobbled courtyard at the heart of the inn into a year-round outdoor area.
Locals who know either the George & Pilgrim in Glastonbury or the Globe & Crown in Yeovil, both part of the same group, will have an idea of the way the new Green Dragon will look and feel. Both pubs get top reviews on Trip Advisor with praise for the range of ales
