Anniversary meeting for WI

In party mode to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the establishment of the group, Wellington Women’s Institute’s meeting in January included games of charades

More seriously, the group’s speaker, Kathy Arnold, a practitioner of aromatherapy and reflexology, explained their therapeutic uses. Members were introduced to aromatherapy oils, their therapeutic uses – for example, for spots, headaches and burns – and the different ways they can be burned, used for inhalation and as room fresheners.

She explained that reflexology, which has grown considerably in popularity in the last 35 years, helps to rebalance internal organs and glands by massage of corresponding reflex points on the feet or hands. Reflexology is particularly effective for stress reduction, tinnitus, digestive and sleep disorders and gynaecological problems.

The January meeting is one of the quarterly occasions when leaders of interest groups report on activities and plans. Updates were presented from the outdoor group, supper club, writings groups, book group, crafters and art group. Amongst many initiatives for 2017 members learned that one of the two writing groups is preparing a ‘radio show’ to be ‘broadcast’ at the February meeting.

The WI’s February meeting we include a talk on family history and genealogy. Visitors are welcome to join us at the Beambridge Inn on 16 February, 7.00 for 7.30 pm.
