Wellington picked up a valuable point with a 1-1 draw away at Bitton in the Toolstation Premier League fixture on Saturday 24th February. Bitton are currently 5 places above the Tangerines in the division so this was a reliable indication that the team and their Manager, Clive Jones, are growing in strength and confidence.
Wellington came back from a goal down twice in this match to force a draw. Bitton’s Conor Cunningham scored first before the ever-reliable Tom Ellis equalised; Tom Knighton put Bitton ahead but George Painter’s second-half goal secured the point which moves the team into 15th place in the league and away from the relegation zone.
Wellington now look forward to two successive home fixtures – against Clevedon Town on Wednesday 28 February at 7.30pm and on Saturday 3 March against Melksham Town at 3pm. Clevedon will be looking to avenge two successive defeats by Wellington and Melksham are challenging for promotion, currently in 4th place in the league. Wellington AFC would welcome support at the North Street ground for both matches.
