The Wellington Business Association is urging townspeople to sign a petition urging Taunton planners to let the proposed re-development of the Buldord Medical Centre be for homes not more shops.
Officials want to stop the development of 42 Later Living homes by specialist homebuilder McCarthy & Stone on the site adjoining the South St car park. They say the site must be reserved for future retail use – despite the number of currently empty High St premises in Wellington.

Wellington Business Association believes there is no foreseeable demand for more town centre shops. In addition, an influx of newly-retired town centre residents could bring economic vitality to existing businesses.
“Research shows that 80% of McCarthy & Stone residents use local shops almost daily or often, and over 40% use the local library or post office frequently,” said Mike Crew, independent financial adviser and WBA Treasurer.
“Your town and district councillors want the McCarthy & Stone development to go ahead. So do many local residents. Help change the planners’ minds”
