David Davies, Chapel Organist at the University of Exeter, will be presenting a recital in St John’s Parish Church today (Saturday) at 3pm.
The recital is in support of the St John’s Church Organ Maintenance Appeal.
During the past 15 years, David has established a reputation as one of the most exciting organists in the South West.
Having trained at Eton, Magdalen College, Oxford and at Yale University, David has gone on to hold church and cathedral posts both in the UK and in the USA.
He was Sub Organist and Director of the Girls’ Choir at Guildford Cathedral, Assistant Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral and Organist of Buckfast Abbey.
David is no stranger to the musical scene in Wellington, having been a member of the teaching staff at Wellington School up to December last year.
Currently, he teaches at Blundell’s School, Tiverton, is Organist at the University of Exeter, Director of Music at Sidmouth Parish Church, Director of Sidmouth Choral Society and a member of the staff at Michael Farley Organ Builders Ltd.
In this one-off concert, he will be performing well-loved works by Bach, Mendelssohn and Elgar as well as pieces by American composers.
