Flavours Restaurant on High Street has been awarded one of Trip Adviser’s top awards. The Certificate of Excellence as a ‘top performing British and Mediterranean Restaurant’ follows consistently positive reviews sent in by diners. To qualify, a business must maintain an overall rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.

With the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence based on customer reviews, the accolade is a vote of confidence in our business and our continued commitment to excellence.”
Herman is originally from Turkey but has lived in the UK since 1983. He opened Flavours in 2007, changing the appearance of the restaurant to make it “fresher. It’s an old building and I wanted to preserve its characteristics rather than change it too much,” he explained. The building dates from the 18th century and has been a blacksmith’s, a nail maker’s and a drapery over time. It has served food in various forms since the 1940‘s. Herman keeps archive photographs of the building on display to acknowledge its history.
His menu is “different from any that you’ll find within a 15 to 20 mile radius,” he said. “I cook local and regional dishes as much as possible and make use of local game when in season. I have fresh fish delivered daily and there’s always a good selection of fish at the weekend.”
Asked about business he said, “I have a regular clientele but the recession has definitely had an effect. It’s not easy to know how many customers there’ll be on any one day.” Having received consistent 5* ratings from diners over 12 months and being awarded Trip Adviser’s Certificate of Excellence as a result could make more local people aware of the quality of a one of the town’s restaurant.
Flavours will be closed from 13th to 23rd June.
